Location of the Mirzo Ulugbek's observatory was unknown for a long time. It was discovered with collective efforts of eminent scientists orientalists and local inhabitants of Samarqand. Archeologist V. L. Viatkin used to reveal main hints to location of the observatory in the following sources: the Boburname book (XVIth century), the Samaria book by Abu Takhir Khodji (30s years of XVIth century) and some waqf documents of XIXth century. Its discovery on the Tahli rassad hill in 1908-1914 years became the main sensational event in the history of the world science of XXth century
